Hauser & Wirth was founded in 1992 in Zurich by its principals Ursula Hauser, Manuela Wirth and Iwan Wirth. The first London gallery (Piccadilly) was opened in 2003 and is located in a historic building across the road from the Royal Academy of Art, showing contemporary art in a beautifully old fashioned edifice. They later expanded their representation in the UK, adding two other gallery spaces in London, the Coppermill and the Colnaghi. The former industrial building that is now the East End Coppermill boasts 25,000 square ft of floor space, providing a grand stage to house enormous and architectural installations. The Colnaghi space hosts established masters of contemporary art during its two shows each year.
