Antony Gormley’s solo exhibition at White Cube Mason’s Yard is comprised of two installations, “Firmament” a sculpture made of 1,770 steel rods welded together in a giant structure depicting the human form, and “Lost Horizon,” 32 life-sized solid iron copies of Gormley’s body adorning the floor, walls and ceiling of one room in the gallery.

Gormley’s work questions where and how human beings fit into the world, and encourages us to reexamine ourselves and our place.
Gormley is one of Britain’s most famous living sculptors. Almost all of his work takes the human body as its subject, with his own body used in many works as the basis for metal casts. He is also well-known for the public installation of his work — on the occasion of a retrospective at the Hayward Gallery in 2007, nearly 20 life-size Gormley body casts appeared on the rooftops of public buildings in London, placed to silhouette boldly against the skyline.
