Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac is hosting Georg Baselitz’s exhibition ‘Remix’ from February 20, to March 29. Georg Baselitz was born in 1938 in Deutschbaselitz, Saxony. His work has been marked by a reaction to human trauma and tragedy, particularly in regard to German history. Baselitz was also influenced by “Art Brut,” the writings and drawings of Antonin Artaud, and African sculpture.

Georg Baselitz has been working on this series of paintings since 2005  amounting to a broad, self-referencing body of work. This is the first exhibition of ‘Remix’ in Paris will include 16 new paintings. A small series of these were inspired by a print that Baselitz had made for Musée de Caen called ‘Marcel Duchamp and the Chambermaid.’

Georg Baselitz has had many international solo and group exhibitions since 1960. His first major retrospective took place at the Solomon R. Guggenheim in New York in 1995.
