Rothko is undoubtedly one of the most important American artists of the last century. Since few German museums own many of his paintings, which tend to be extremely fragile, not to mention expensive, this retrospective is a rare opportunity to see his expressive work in person. Visitors may be interested to see his work progress toward the color field paintings which Rothko is most known for.
