more images and story after the jump…
The collaboration of Peter Fischli and David Weiss dates back to 1979, both Zürich born, they are among the most renowned contemporary artists in Switzerland. Their works explore an array of artistic mediums: film, photography, sculpture and media installations. International fame came to the artists with the film “The Way Things Go”- a documentation of a chain reaction that functions similarly to a Rube Goldberg machine. Since then, parallels have been drawn between their and Jean Tinguely’s (a Swiss painter and sculptor best known for his kinetic art) work. The employment of irony and calculated chance in the works of Fischli and Weiss may be cause of references made by art critics to Dadaist ideals.
