Dayton Daily News (Dayton, OH) February 10, 2005 | From staff reports IMMUNIZATION CLINICS SET FOR TWO SITES Childhood immunizations are being offered at the Harrison Twp. Community Center, 5945 N. Dixie Drive, on the third Thursday of each month and at the Englewood Government Center, 333 W. National Road, on the third Tuesday of each month. The next shot clinic at the Harrison Twp. center will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 17. The next clinic at the Englewood site will be 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The immunizations are available for all children 18 and younger at outreach clinic sites operated by the Combined Health District of Montgomery County as part of the “KISS Your Child” Immunization Program. The goal of this program is to fully immunize 90 percent of all children under the age of 2 in Montgomery County. There are no family income requirements to receive immunizations and the vaccines are of the highest quality.

A registered nurse will administer the immunization shots, which include DTaP, polio, Hib, comvax, hepatitis B, MMR, chicken pox and tetanus-diphtheria. Prevnar is available on a limited basis to those that qualify.

Parents or legal guardians must bring the child’s shot record and insurance card with them. No child will be turned away due to inability to pay. go to site greenville daily news

CALL FOR ACTION TO MEET TUESDAY TROTWOOD — The Call for Action group is holding its next meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Trotwood Church of the Brethren, 208 E. Main St.

The anti-landfill organization will hear from a citizen’s legal representative, attorney Ellis Jacobs. All interested Trotwood citizens and business owners are encouraged to attend.

DAWSON’S NATURE PHOTOS IN DISPLAY LEWISBURG —- Bruce H. Dawson, a Lewisburg resident who teaches journalism at Sinclair Community College in Dayton, will display his digital photographs at the Darke County Park District Nature Center beginning Tuesday through Feb. 28.

The nature-oriented photographs feature fall and winter scenes, animals and birds.

Dawson will also speak on his experience as an outdoor photographer at the Darke County Birder’s Club meeting at 7 p.m. Feb. 22, at the nature center in the Shawnee Prairie Preserve, 4267 Ohio 502 in Greenville.

Dawson, who is also the adviser for The Clarion, Sinclair’s student newspaper, has been writing a weekly column, On the Outdoors, for the Greenville Daily Advocate since 1997. see here greenville daily news

FIREFIGHTERS, RESCUERS NEEDED BROOKVILLE —- The Brookville Fire Department needs dedicated men and women to bolster its roster of firefighters, paramedics and EMTs. The 33-member department also provides emergency services to parts of Perry and Clay townships.

The Brookville Fire Department is a “combination” fire department, which means it is staffed by paid-on-call firefighters, paramedics and EMTs, who respond to emergencies from their homes and places of business and are paid for their services on an on-call basis, and by part-time members, who receive an hourly wage to staff the firehouse five days a week from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Criteria for prospective recruits include, but are not limited to:

– Must be at least 18 years of age.

– Possess a high school diploma or a GED equivalent.

– Have a driver’s license, be in good health and be able to pass a background check and a drug test.

“Ideally, it would be wonderful to find men and women in the community who already have experience; that is, those who are certified emergency medical technicians or have fire training,” Brookville Fire Chief Jim Nickel said. “But we have opened the recruitment program to all residents who fit the criteria for service. For those who don’t have training, we will make classes available locally.” Following the recruitment process, the department will have a general meeting to allow prospective recruits to tour the city’s two firehouses and ask questions.

NORTHMONT LIBRARY PLANS SPECIAL EVENTS ENGLEWOOD —- The Northmont Branch Library, 333 W. National Road, is offering events this month.

A Northmoor Elementary School fifth-grade class has a display of their national “monuments” depicting different people and events at the library.

– Michael Trick of Dayton also will have a display of North America railroad memorabilia, some dating as far back as the 1880s.

– Looking Over Literature for fifth- through 12th-graders will be at 4:30 p.m. Feb. 17.

Copies of Al Capone Does My Shirts will be available for participants at the library’s Information Desk.

These book discussions are offered the first and third Thursdays of the month.

– The Fun Club for grades one through four will be 4:30 to 5: 30 p.m. Tuesdays, and preschool story times are 10:30 a.m. and 1: 30 p.m. Wednesdays.
