New York Times Notes Increasing Rate of Private Sales for Auction Houses

An article in the New York Times reflects on the current state of the art market, and notes an increasing number of private sales as collectors seek to avoid commission fees and higher taxes.  “The auction houses have created some huge margins at the midlevel,” says collector Howard Rachofsky. “A lot of that trade is going to migrate to the private side.”
