The Smithsonian Institute is bracing for the effects of the government shutdown, but will remain open Monday using funds saved up for contingencies such as a shutdown. “I hope they can avoid the shutdown, obviously, because I would like for government employees to continue to draw a paycheck and the government to continue to function,†says one visitor to Washington D.C. “I’m praying that we can stabilize it.â€
