Miami Beach and Miami-Dade County have invested $620 million in a renovation of the circa-1957 Miami Beach Convention Center, including a massive program of public art, part of the city’s attempt to redefine itself in the wake of its art fair explosion. “For all of the fairs in New York—Frieze, Armory, Independent, antique shows, et cetera—I think New York would survive perfectly well without them.
