After two years and over $2 million invested in the project, the German government has only identified five works from the Cornelius Gurlitt trove as Nazi loot, and returned them to their rightful owners.  “The results are much better than this number indicates,†says Culture Minister Monika Grütters.  “One lesson we have learned will stay with us, namely that speed and thoroughness are not both possible in provenance research.â€
