Currently on view at the Rotunda di Via Besana and the Fabbrica del Vapore is Perspective Disorientations, two large-scale installation works by Indian artist Anish Kapoor. My Red Homeland, a circular installation work made from red wax positioned in the middle of a round holder is on view at the Rotunda di Via Besana. The round form matches the many vertical steel sculptures which surround the work reflecting deformed images of passing onlookers.

More images and text after the jump…

“Red is the color of blood, of passion and of feelings; it’s the color of meat, transformed, for this piece, into wax and Vaseline: organic materials that lasts,” says Kapoor to introduce the piece. The sentiment the work evokes is what the artist states reflects his idea of “perspective disorientations.”

Kapoor’s Dirty Corner at Fabbrica del Vapore is a monumental site-specific work expanding throughout the sites “cathedral” space. The work consists of a long steel tunnel which measures 60 meters long and 8 meters high which visitors can walk through. As one enters, they soon loose their perception of space; the interior becomes progressively darker the deeper one journeys inside until they must rely on other senses to guide them through.

The entrance of the tunnel is in the form of a large goblet. The exterior and interior surface is circular and makes minimal contact with the ground. Over the course of the exhibition the installation will gradually become covered by 160 cubic meters of red soil by a large mechanical device. The resulting dirt will form a sharp pointed mountain through which the tunnels seemingly runs through. The installation has been realized with the support of Gallerie Continua, the Lisson Gallery and the Galleria Massimo Minini.
