Faced with rising rents, galleries in Chelsea are slowly moving to areas such as the Lower East Side. Multi-tenant buildings have been affected the most, with small dealers suffering a lack of foot traffic, while large galleries have opened up mega-spaces that also steal viewers. With the High Line‘s popularity and increasing gentrification, rents are only slated to continue increasing.

‬Andrea Rosen Gallery to expand on 24th Street, Chelsea to a new venue named Gallery 2. “We’ll begin in September with an artist whom I can’t name just yet. It will be the artist’s first solo show in New York,” says Rosen.

The Dia Art Foundation hires architect Roger Duffy to construct its new Chelsea home, “We want to make sure that 22nd Street will re-engage with new generations of artists,” says Dia’s director Philippe Vergne.
