German fashion and art photographer Juergen Teller recently sat down with The Guardian to discuss his career, his life in Germany and the United Kingdom, and his upcoming retrospective at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London.  “You feel like he’s capturing the speed of life and the speed of light,” says frequent collaborator Charlotte Rampling. “I think he brings out a particular side of people and that’s what photography is to me. However he gets there doesn’t really matter technically, but what he sees is the Juergen Teller view on something.”    (more…)

Jack Goldstein – Where Is Jack Goldstein? (Installation View), courtesy Venus Over Manhattan

A member of the first graduating class of CalArts in 1972, Jack Goldstein made enormous and immediate contributions to the fine arts landscape in the 1970s and 1980s before vanishing from the public eye and tragically ending his own life in 2003.  Now, almost ten years after Goldstein’s death, collector Adam Lindemann is hosting an ambitious retrospective of Goldstein’s early work at his Venus Over Manhattan Gallery, pulling from Goldstein’s practice in painting, photography, poetry and film, including a recreation of Goldstein’s influential performance piece, Two Fencers. Cy Twombly – The Last Paintings (Exhibition View), Gagosian Gallery

In 2010, one year before his death, iconic American painter Cy Twombly completed a number of new works — primarily in green, red, orange and yellow — that would end up being the last pieces that he would complete in his lifetime.  These vivid works are now being exhibited at Gagosian Gallery in London, having made their way from Los Angeles to Hong Kong to their current location.

Paul McCarthy – Dirty Dotty, Yellow (1995), Hauser and Wirth, Zurich

Sanctuary, the Gregory Crewdson exhibition currently on view at Gagosian Gallery’s Madison Avenue branch, further develops the artist’s on-going investigation into the realm of staged photography. With this new body of work, Crewdson addresses questions of format and color, presenting a series of black and white images that offer an intimate entry point into his visual journey through Italy.

“Still Life Negative after Mignon” by Wittwer via Uwe Wittwer

A new body of work and the first solo show titled “Raised Hide” of the Swiss artist Uwe Wittwer is currently on view at Haunch of Venison in London, UK. The show is comprised of a series of works on paper, in watercolor and inkjet, which represent Wittwer’s continued inquiry into authenticity of images and the truth of perspective. All of Wittwer’s prints and paintings are sources and are downloaded from the internet before undergoing a perceptual and physical transformation. In the tradition of Gerhard Richter and Luc Tuymans, Wittwer adapts and reclaims photographic and digital images as his own translations of artistic vision. He explores the role of artist as a voyeur and image generation and his visions are available to the public until October 3^rd, 2009.
