Eva Rothschild’s flirtation with Modernism of the 60s and 70s is prevalent in the dichotomy of reactions that her work provokes. The immediacy of a possible interpretation is welcomed, both by the artist’s intention and in this case consequently the work, thus making the latter representational. Yet this freedom granted to the viewer is met by the material presence of the structural piece. An emerging artist Eva Rothschild has already established a recognizable stylistic pattern. Sculptures exhibited at Modern Art are a derivative of this pattern where the obtuse meaning is grounded by the heavy form.
