To celebrate the 50th birthday of the artist Keith Haring, who died of AIDS in 1990, Deitch Projects and the Keith Haring Foundation hired artists to re-create the artist’s mural work from the original.

If you have the oportunity to pass at the northwest corner of Houston Street and Bowery, you will notice a wall with fluorescent colors, which represents one of Haring’s murals, painted in 1982. The space is owned by the real estate developer Tony Goldman. Jeffrey Deitch, founder of Deitch Projects, commented, “At the time, the corner of Houston and Bowery was the center of the downtown art world, because the galleries were in SoHo and the artists were in the East Village…. This project is a celebration of the dynamism of this time.” The mural will be on view until December, 21 when another Haring work will be recreated.
