Jerry Saltz Reportedly Banned from Facebook Over “Offensive Content”

Critic Jerry Saltz has reportedly been banned from Facebook, over what he says were complaints received by the website over Classical and Renaissance images he had posted featuring gruesome and sexualized scenes.  “It’s a cumulative thing,” Mr. Saltz says.  “The posts are called sexist, misogynistic and abusive, and then I’m called sexist misogynistic and abusive.” (more…)

Jerry Saltz Speaks on the Effects of the Mega-Galleries on the Art World

In a recent article for New York Magazine, Jerry Saltz critiques the effects of the mega-galleries on their artist rosters, and asserts that the galleries often encourage artists to overproduce critically weak work in favor of sheer salability.  ” By now, these galleries are essentially exploiting the potential of artists who have been carefully nurtured for years by other galleries. Hou Hanrou Appointed as MAXXI Artistic Director

The Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome has announced critic and curator Hou Hanrou as its new artistitc director.  The Chinese-born Hanrou will take up the position in September, assuming responsibility for the museum’s diverse blend of programming during a time when the museum is struggling to keep its head above water in a difficult European economy.
