The New Museum has announced Gary Carrion-Murayari, the Kraus Family Curator at the museum, and Alex Gartenfeld, Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, will head up curatorial duties for the institution’s 2018 Triennial.  “I cannot think of two curators who are more in tune with emerging art today than Gary Carrion-Murayari and Alex Gartenfeld,” says Massimiliano Gioni.  “They are young, but their achievements and careers are impressive. Heman Chong, Mrs. Dalloway (2014), via Art Observed

On view at P! in New York is two-person exhibition featuring works by Elaine Lustig Cohen and Heman Chong, in which the artists curate and commission works from each other.  The exhibition emphasizes the concept of holding multiple roles within creative work.  Both Lustig Cohen (b. 1927) and Chong (b. 1977) have worked in a variety of different positions and roles in the art world, including artist, designer, curator, dealer, and writer, and hold a mutual respect for each other’s work. For the exhibition, this respect played out in the gallery as Chong selected works from Lustig Cohen’s body of paintings, while Cohen commissioned Chong to create nine new pieces within his ongoing series of imagined designs for book jackets.

On view at Andrea Rosen Gallery in New York is an exhibition of large-scale vitrines, mirrored wall panels and photographs, all by Josephine Meckseper, and alluding to the rise of the Bauhaus and Deutscher Werkbund in Weimar Germany, and their subsequent destruction by the Nazi regime.

The increasing use of the word “curation” in the economic and creative sphere has lead writer and curator Daniel Blight to question the cultural implications of the word for the world of fine art.  As people often taking a more proactive stance in creating meaning and distributional flows online, curators are challenge to increase emphasis on transparency and accessibility in the art landscape, Blight says. Continuing their ongoing relationship, Andrea Rosen Gallery is currently exhibiting its 11th solo exhibition of work by German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans, on view through June 22nd.  From Neue Welt is the result of a four-year project that Tillmans began in 2008, and completed in 2012, a vigorous photographic cataloguing of the dawn of the 21st century. 25 works have been selected from the hundreds of photographs that were a part of the original work, which culminated at the Kunsthalle Zurich in the fall of 2012.
