Chicago-born, Brooklyn-based artist Nathaniel Mary Quinn presents his first major solo exhibition this month, on view at Pace Gallery’s London location. The artist’s works, large-scale abstract figurative works, are piecemeal constructions, representative of Quinn’s own identity and influenced by an enormously challenging upbringing.

New York Times Magazine profiles the Retrospective Gallery, which just opened last Saturday in Hudson, N.Y.  The space, founded by dealers Zach Feuer and Joel Mesler, is looking to experiment in the upstate city, trying new events and strategies “outside the pressure cooker,” as Feuer says.   (more…)

A recent study of laboratory mice at Keio University in Japan has sought to uncover whether the small animal could distinguish between various works of art by Kandinksy, Renoir, Picasso and Mondrian.  Using various rewards for the animal, the researchers discovered that mice were able to distinguish works as unique, and were also, in some cases, able to identify an artist’s work by their style of painting.   (more…)
