Georgia O’Keefe Museum Acquires Rare Work by Artist

The Georgia O’Keefe museum has acquired a rare 1926 work by the artist, an abstracted landscape that showcases her expressive craft outside of her more traditional subject matter, and captures the country home of her and her husband Alfred Stieglitz.  “Of the subjects O’Keeffe pursued at Lake George in the 1920s—her most prolific decade—the various barns on the Stieglitz property most directly connect her to the interests of various members of the Stieglitz circle and other American modernists to identify distinctly national subjects,” the museum said in a statement. Tate Modern Announces 2016 Exhibitions for Georgia O’Keefe and Robert Rauschenberg

The Tate Modern has announced its schedule of exhibitions for 2016, including a major survey of the work of Georgia O’Keefe, as well as the first posthumous retrospective of the work of Robert Rauschenberg in the UK.  “There is next to no work by Georgia O’Keeffe anywhere in Europe,” says Achim Borchardt-Hume, the gallery’s director of exhibitions. “Unless you travel to the States and travel quite extensively across the States it is very difficult to form a coherent picture of her work.” (more…)

New York – “American Legends: From Calder to O’Keefe” at the Whitney Museum of American Art through the end of May 2013

On view currently at the Whitney Museum is a showcase of some of the museum’s deeper holdings of American artwork from the first half of the twentieth century, exploring the years before the mid-century advent of Abstract Expressionism. This part of the rotating exhibition, which began in December 2012, will continue through May 2013 before moving on to a new selection of works.

US Postal Service Announces Modern Art Stamps Series

In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the groundbreaking 1913 Armory Show, the United States Postal Service has announced a series of 12 stamps honoring the early pioneers of modern art.  The Modern Art in America 1913-1931 series includes stamps dedicated to Marcel Duchamp, Georgia O’Keefe, Joseph Stella, and more.
