Paris Louvre Retains Position at World’s Most Visited Museum

The Louvre, via Art DailyThe Paris Louvre has maintained its position at the top of the list of the world’s most visited museums, boasting an annual attendance of 9.3 million visitors for 2013.  Foreign visitors represented 70% of ticket sales, the museum said in a statement. (more…)

NADA New York Announces Exhibitor List

The NADA Art Fair has announced its list of exhibitors for the 2014 edition of the fair in New York, returning to Basketball City on Pier 36 in Manhattan, and running concurrently with the Frieze New York Art Fair this May.  The list of over 80 galleries includes The Hole, Invisible-Exports, Marlborough Chelsea, and more. Art Basel Announces 2014 Exhibitor List

The Art Basel fair has announced the list of exhibitors for its 2014 edition, to be held this June, with 285 Galleries from around the world.  A number of small galleries, like New York’s Ramiken Crucible and London’s The Approach will appear this year alongside the annual players.  (more…)

ARTNews Releases Top 200 Collectors List

ARTNews’ annual list of the world’s top art collectors has been released, detailing the most prolific and high-spending patrons from around the world.  Among the top 10 are a number of recognizable names, including Eli Broad,  Steven A. Cohen, and François Pinault.  Also of note is a brief article stating the number of collectors willing to spend high dollar amounts for desired works. “I’d say the figure for those going over $20 million is about 150. There are about 100 who would go over $50 million.” Says Sotheby’s Executive Vice President Charles Moffett.   (more…)

Baldessari Takes a Conceptual Spin on Art F City’s “STUFF” Series

Art F City’s weekly STUFF column took an interesting twist this week, as artist John Baldessari was invited to contribute a list of his ten most prized possessions.  Rather following his cue, the artist submitted a list of 10 incredibly wealthy individuals, including photographs of each billionaire’s personal yacht.  True to form, Baldessari’s witty subversion offers a pointed commentary on the fetishization of material objects.
