Andy Warhol Museum Scraps NYC Expansion Plans

Plans for a New York outpost of the Andy Warhol Museum have reportedly been abandoned, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.  “Despite the efforts of both the museum and the developers, an internal study of business and other operational considerations led the museum to this decision,” Director Eric Shiner said in a statement. Andy Warhol Bridge “Yarn-Bombed”

Several days after the birthday of Andy Warhol, a group of artists in Pittsburgh have begun the process of covering the Andy Warhol Bridge in layers of knitted blankets, part of a project titled Knit the Bridge.  The project, which raised over $100,000 in crowdsourced funding, launched yesterday, and will be on view until September, when the blankets used in the project will be donated to homeless shelters.  “Everybody is jubilant,” said Jenny Tabrum, the technical adviser for Knit the Bridge. “The excitement is palpable in the air because everybody is thrilled that it’s finally happening.” (more…)

$500k Sidaner Discovered in Pittsburgh School

An interior by French post-impressionist Henri Le Sidaner has been discovered in an office of the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania School District.  The work, which was purchased in 1933 and donated to the school system, has been considered missing for 80 years, and is valued at $500k.  “It was really great it turned up and we know where it is now,” said Louise Lippincott, curator for fine arts at Carnegie Museum of Art.
