Daniel Loeb Confirmed as Sotheby’s New Board Member

Investor Daniel Loeb has officially been acknowledged as one of Sotheby’s newest board members, alongside two of his own candidates, expanding the auction house’s board to 15 members.  The appointment was part of a May 5th agreement between Sotheby’s and Loeb, and brings in jewelry designer Olivier Reza and Harry J. Wilson to help lead the company.   (more…)

Rob Pruitt Announces Return of the Rob Pruitt Art Awards

Artist Rob Pruitt has launched a website for voting in the third Rob Pruitt’s Art Awards, tallying votes for fields including “Artist of the Year,” “Critic of the Year,” Art Fair Booth of the Year,” and more.  Winners will be announced in the December 2013 issue of Art In America.  “Conceived as a performance-based artwork, Rob Pruitt’s Art Awards are modeled after the Oscars and the Grammys as high-profile, industry-specific prizes that celebrate the achievements of their respective constituents.”  The site says. UK Project “Art Everywhere” Launches with Help from Damien Hirst

Billed as the world’s largest art exhibition, the newly announced Art Everywhere project will turn billboards and poster sites around the United Kingdom into exhibition spaces for works from the national collection.  The project is curated in part by the British public, who will vote on their favorite works from a curated shortlist.  Damien Hirst has offered a work for exhibition, and is a vocal supporter of the project.  “Art is for everyone, and everyone who has access to it will benefit from it. This project is amazing and gives the public a voice and an opportunity to choose what they want to see on their streets.“  He says. (more…)
