As the Los Angeles County Museum of Art continues its 50th-anniversary acquisitions campaign, the museum announced over $200 million in new art received as “anniversary gifts” to the institution.  A number of the works go on view this week as part of the museum’s “50 for 50: Gifts on the Occasion of LACMA’s Anniversary” exhibition. FIAC at the Grand Palais, via Grand Palais

Following close on the heels of last week’s blockbuster Frieze art fair in London, the French capital of Paris will take its turn in the art-world spotlight, opening the doors of the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain (FIAC) for its 40th edition.  It’s a markedly different affair from the high-profile glitz of the comparatively younger Frieze franchise, but will nevertheless boast an impressive lineup of galleries, installations, performances and spotlights that place the fair among the top events of the contemporary art calendar.

The Wooster Collective is currently celebrating its tenth anniversary, and has welcomed a number of artists the site showcased in its early years to offer advice and lessons learned over the past decade.  The most recent contribution comes from the Los Angeles-based Skullphone, who offers: “If you are too pure you will never fly, drive, or physically go anywhere.” (more…)

With the Art Dealers Association of America celebrating both its 50th anniversary and 25th year of the ADAA Art Show (running March 6th-10th), The Art Newspaper spoke with Director Linda Blumberg about the organization’s history, its response in the wake of hurrican Sandy, and the future of the art market.  “We don’t know where it’s going to go. Are fairs going to replace galleries? I rather doubt it, but it’s our role as an organisation to make sure people understand why galleries are so important.
