The Met Announces Major David Chipperfield-Led Redesign of Modern and Contemporary Wings

The Met has announced a major redesign plan, with David Chipperfield Architects developing a new design for the museum’s southwest wing, housing its modern and contemporary collections.  “The project will run concurrent with the Met’s installations in the Marcel Breuer-designed building that formerly housed the Whitney,” says current director Thomas P. Campbell, “allowing us to regenerate our permanent spaces in the Met’s main building while maintaining a vibrant program for modern and contemporary art just blocks away.” (more…)

Christo Project Closer to Realization After Federal Court Win

Christo, via the Washington PostA Federal court ruled in favor of Christo’s currently delayed Arkansas project this week, defeating a group of activists claiming that the work was an environmental threat.  “We have one lawsuit in state court still outstanding, but today we took a very significant and important step forward in realizing Over the River,” Christo said. Anish Kapoor to Show at Palace of Versailles in 2015

Anish Kapoor will be the next artist given a solo show at the Palace of Versailles, the organization announced this week.  Kapoor’s show will run from June to October of 2015, and was chosen “because he has something particular to say in this setting,” says Chief Administrator Catherine Pégard. Monet Landscape Found Hidden in Cornelius Gurlitt’s Suitcase

German investigators have announced that they have found a landscape by Claude Monet hidden inside the suitcase of Cornelius Gurlitt, adding yet another work to the considerable selection of works he had stored away in his Munich apartment.  Gurlitt had apparently tried to bring the work with him when he left for the hospital, which scholars are estimating was painted around 1864.
