The WSJ Magazine profiles Theaster Gates, a sculptor, performance artist and urban planner from Grand Crossing, a mostly-black neighborhood south of downtown Chicago, and his work, which goes further than social commentary.  Gates focuses on rebuilding and re-contextualizing spaces, not only as part of his artistic practice- but also in a real and effective way that transforms lower income communities.
