Thomas Houseago, All Together Now, Installation view. All photos via L&M Gallery

A native of northern England, Thomas Houseago brings his hulking, brutish sculptures to the L&M Gallery in Los Angeles through March 5. The 18 sculptures vary in both style and material, composed of wood, aluminum, plaster, bronze, rebar, hemp, and more, drawing on influences from tribal art to Picasso to Rodin. These new works are some of the artist’s largest, lending an architectural air to the exhibition, positioning pieces both inside and outside the gallery.

Installation view, “Damien Hirst: Medicine Cabinets” at L&M Arts, New York. Courtesy of L&M Arts.

In case you missed Damien Hirst at last month’s Contemporary Art auctions (just one painting made it to an evening sale), there is still time to see eighteen of the artist’s Medicine Cabinets installed at L&M Arts in New York. The cabinets are exhibited along with a collection of Sex Pistols memorabilia that includes posters, prints, and t-shirts.

Exhibition View, by Frank Stella, via L & M Gallery

Currently on view at L & M Gallery in New York is Frank Stella’s “Exotic Birds.” The exhibition features work the artist executed in 1975  in the form of twenty-eight graph paper drawings which he then converted into Foamcore maquettes.  In 1976, he transformed the maquettes into a series of large-scale aluminum reliefs known as “Exotic Birds.” According to renowned curator William Rubin, the series signaled a transition in Stella’s work, “that was radical on the levels of both method and pictorial language.”
