Serpentine Launches Children’s Architecture Program

The Serpentine has announced a Build Your Own Pavilion contest for young and aspiring architects, aged 8 to 14, inviting them to try their hand at executing their own unique architectural design.  “The platform and workshops give an insight to the basic principles of architectural design and workshop students will be given the Pavilion brief and a toolkit that begins with sketching by hand, working with simple modeling materials and progressing to 3D design and print technologies,” the Serpentine says. On view at its 25th Street galleries, Pace is currently presenting Lucas Samaras’s exhibition Albums 2, featuring over 700 digitally enhanced photographs and a mirrored room installation.  Samaras’s exhibition showcases his continued exploration of manipulated imagery as a way of plumbing his own existence, this time playing through his autobiographical accounts with digital technologies. Jeffrey Deitch to Open Street Art Show in Coney Island

Jeffrey Deitch is preparing to install an exhibition of street art in Coney Island this summer, including work by Mister Cartoon, Swoon, JR, Lee Quiñones, and Icy Signs, among others.  I’ve always loved the energy that comes out of the New York vernacular,” Deitch says, “and I’ve dreamed of doing a show in Coney Island since I first started going there in the ’70s.” (more…)

Previously Unseen Warhol Films To Premiere With Live Scores from Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, Eleanor Friedberger and others

The Andy Warhol Museum has recruited a group of five musicians, including Deerhunter’s Bradford Cox, Eleanor Friedberger, Television’s Tom Verlaine, Suicide’s Martin Rev and Dean Wareham of Galaxie 500, to score a selection of never-before seen Warhol films.  The performances will launch on Oct. 24 at the Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA, before opening in New York at the BAM Howard Gilman Opera House from Nov. 6-8.
