German Exhibition of Iranian Art Collection Postponed

A Berlin exhibition of works from Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art has been postponed, after Iranian authorities have failed to allow the collected paintings to leave the country.  “We had signed contracts with the TMoCA and relations are on a good footing, but we are told someone needs to give the green light for the artworks to leave Tehran, and that signature is still missing, though the current signals we’re getting indicate we’ll get them soon,” a spokesperson for exhibition organizers the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation said. Tehran Museum Invites Bloomberg to Tour Rarely Seen Collection of Western Works

The Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art has opened its doors to Bloomberg, giving the publication a rare glimpse by Western media into its impressive collection of Western contemporary work.  “This is one of the great unseen collections of postwar European and American art in the world,” says Hirshhorn Director Melissa Chiu. “We haven’t seen these works in 40 years.” (more…)

Jackson Pollock’s “Mural on Indian Red Ground” valued at $250 million, has returned to the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art after being detained (in transit from Tokyo) at Iran customs due to outstanding debt by the Culture Ministry.
