Shaun Caley Regen opened her new location in Los Angeles last night at 6750 Santa Monica Boulevard, in a newly developing section of Hollywood, just east of Highland Avenue. The new space was designed by architect Michael Maltzan, creating a museum-like exhibition venue.

On Twitter last night, she was quoted as saying: “You do it for the artists, you do it for the city and you do it for your staff”.

The show included work by Doug Aitken, Matthew Barney, Walead Beshty, John Bock, Abraham Cruzvillegas, Dan Graham, Rachel Harrison, Elliott Hundley, Sergej Jensen, Anish Kapoor, Toba Khedoori, Gabriel Kuri, Liz Larner, Glenn Ligon, Scott McFarland, Marilyn Minter, Catherine Opie, Manfred Pernice, Raymond Pettibon, Elizabeth Peyton, Jack Pierson, Lari Pittman, Willem de Rooij, Gary Simmons, Wolfgang Tillmans, Lizzie Fitch/Ryan Trecartin, Gillian Wearing, Lawrence Weiner, James Welling, Sue Williams, and Andrea Zittel.

The show included longtime gallery artists and introduced the work of newly-represented artists as well.

Shaun Caley Regen’s roster of Los Angeles-based and international artists has been cultivated for the past 23 years, and the gallery has become a mainstay of L.A.’s art scene. In the late 1980s, her late husband opened Stuart Regen Gallery in West Hollywood, showing artists such as Lawrence Weiner and Anish Kapoor. In 1991, he married Shaun Caley, and they gave then-unknown 24-year old artist Matthew Barney his first solo show. As the recession of the ’90s hit, they took a smaller space, renaming it Regen Projects. Stuart passed away in 1998 and Shaun Regen has since developed a reputation as a dealer who fosters artists in all stages of their careers.
