Documenta is facing an operating deficit of over $8 million, the Art Newspaper reports, with city and state governments taking on loans to keep the exhibition running. “Documenta is inextricably linked with Kassel,” Christian Geselle, the mayor of Kassel said. “We want Documenta to continue in Kassel as a world-ranking exhibition of contemporary art.”
