Pettibon often works with ink and gouache on paper and uses a drawing style similar to comics, often incorporating text. The images in this show include references to surf culture, sexuality, politics and riffs on the Iraq war and President Bush, all done with Pettibon’s signature skillful hand and cool dark humor.

Pettibon became a well-known figure in contemporary art in the 1990’s, emerging from the Los Angeles punk rock scene. While such ‘American’ themes as Gumby, baseball, and politics have been a cornerstone of his work, Pettibon has retained a strong international base of admirers and collectors.
