Anri Sala Interviewed in NYT

Anri Sala is interviewed in the New York Times this week, where he discusses Hu  his exhibition at the New Museum, and his relationship to both classical and pop music.  “The detachment from today’s culture is something that interests me. We love many classical pieces, but they are far enough away that they have become like archaeological objects we can approach with some form of objectivity,” he says.  “That wouldn’t be the case with pop music. It’s too recent, and manipulates us in ways that we have not yet completely decoded.” (more…)

Back in 2003 in Frieze’s first year, no major international art fair had ever been hosted in London before. Frieze Art Fair, organized by Matthew Slotover and Amanda Sharp, has helped take London from being a city without a focused art scene to its current state at the center of the European art market. Now in its tenth year, Frieze Art Fair in London’s Regent’s Park has seen around 60,000 visitors, with 264 dealers from 35 countries hoping to sell work (valuing an estimated  £230m) created by more than 2,400 artists within 175 of the world’s leading galleries.

Christine Macel will curate the Anri Sala exhibition at the 2013 Venice Biennale French pavillion. Macel has been chief curator at the Musee National d’Art Moderne at the Centre Pompidou for the last 12 years. The artist and the curator have been discussing a collaboration between France and Germany and a decision will be reached in the next couple of weeks. (more…)
