Kim Gordon to Present Turner Prize

Artist, musician and writer Kim Gordon will be present the Turner Prize award on Monday, the 7th of December 2015, at the Tramway in Glasgow.  “Kim Gordon has been at the cutting edge of culture for many years and we are delighted to welcome her to Scotland to present this prestigious contemporary art prize,” says Amanda Catto, Head of Visual Arts, Creative Scotland, said. 303 Gallery Readies First Solo Show for Kim Gordon

303 Gallery has announced plans for an exhibition of the work of former Sonic Youth frontwoman and longtime fine artist Kim Gordon, running into the summer of 2015.  Gordon was added to the gallery’s roster earlier this year, but installed work there in 2012 in collaboration with Karen Kilimnik. Currently on display at 303 Gallery is a collaborative exhibition of work by Kim Gordon (of the band Sonic Youth) and Karen Kilimnik. It is Kilimnik’s eleventh time exhibiting at 303 and Gordon’s second. Upon entering the gallery, one is submerged into a dimly lit and twinkling underworld of subculture that is examined through film, painting, performance and installation.

Tacita Dean’s Christmas tree, ‘Weihnachtsbaum‘ at Tate Britain via Zimbio

The Tate has been embracing the Christmas spirit this week with a series of headlining seasonal happenings.  The Tate Christmas Tree 2009, “Weihnachtsbaum” designed by Tacita Dean, shocked critics by actually appearing “Christmassy”[Bloomberg]  This weekend, Tate Modern’s vast Turbine Hall was taken over by Rob Pruitt‘s festive ‘Flea Market’ – originally held at Gavin Brown’s Passerby gallery in New York in the late 1990s, this event was programmed to coincide with the Tate Modern exhibition Pop Life: Art in a Material World, in which Pruitt also appears [POP Magazine]

Italian police have seized works of art belonging to Carlisto Tanzi – founder of the Italian firm Parmalat who collapsed in a massive fraud scandal in 2003. The 19 paintings and drawings, included works by Picasso, Monet and Van Gogh, and is estimated to be worth more than 100million euros [BBC News]
