The Guardian Profiles New Rem Koolhaas Designed Museums in Europe

The Guardian notes the recent completion of two new European contemporary art spaces (The Garage Center in Moscow and the Fondazione Prada in Milan) designed by Rem Koolhaas, heralding what some consider a new era in the shape and strategy for cultural centers.  “If you want to change the world you also have to decide what you want to keep,” Koolhaas states.

Marc Quinn’s “Planet” Installed in Singapore Sculpture Park

Sculptor Marc Quinn has unveiled his most recent installation commission, a massive rendering of the artist’s son at the Gardens by the Bay in Singapore.  The sculpture, titled Planet, is intended to play on notions of weight and scale, and continues Quinn’s record of major public works, following his bust of Allison Lapper on Trafalgar Square’s 4th plinth.   (more…)

Along with other British notables interviewed in The Guardian, Grayson Perry discusses what the various names for the ‘evening meal’ indicate about an individual’s social class. The artist, who often centerpieces the discussion of social class divides in his art, claims that “the word supper implies a subtle rebuke to the aspirational classes who are gauche enough to hold dinner parties at home.”

Herzog & de Meuron‘s converted oil tanks, located underneath the Tate Modern, to open as new three exhibition spaces on July 18, 2012. In a review of The Tanks, the Guardian comments that: “they have the confident geometry of things made not for appearances but for a substantial practical use, and their concrete surfaces have a raw force.”

The Guardian, by looking into Vyner Street galleries, examines macro factors causing East End of London galleries to move West, “The East End has only really flourished during a boom…in 2005 it felt like a critical hub. As the galleries I really admired moved out, collectors came less and less,” says Fred Mann, owner of Fred Ltd, one of the latest galleries to move West.
