Last week marked the start of the new gallery season with a number of Chelsea galleries opening their doors on Thursday night. Coinciding with Fashion Week was the opening at Lehmann Maupin of Juergen Teller’s fifth exhibition with the gallery, ‘Paradis.’ Originally commissioned for the French magazine Paradis, the exhibition features Charlotte Rampling and Raquel Zimmermann, whom Teller has photographed previously, alone and nude in the Musée du Louvre.

Shot in Teller’s signature washed-out style, the works do not depart very much from his commercial work, for fashion lines Marc Jacobs and Yves Saint Laurent. There are, however, a number of photographs are of just artworks. The series is described as “a tribute to women and the human form,” with the two women often standing next to each other, amidst the great masterpieces of Western art. The even coincided with a number of other openings in Chelsea as well as with “Fashion’s Night Out” which provided an energy on the streets outside the gallery which seemed appropriate for an exhibition of an artist who is one of the better examples of crossing over from the fashion industry into the art world. As such, in attendance, and seen in the above and below pictures, were art world figures such as John Currin, and Matthew Barney and Bjork as well as Olivier Zahm of Purple Magazine.
