Olafur Eliasson Interviewed in The Guardian for New Ballet Work

Olafur Eliasson is interviewed in The Guardian this week, discussing some of his large-scale and ongoing projects, including his work on the ballet adaptation of the Jonathan Safran Foer work Tree of Codes in Manchester.  “On stage will be a mirror, and it will reflect the room. It’s a stretch to say that it puts the audience on the stage,” says Eliasson.  “However, they will be conscious of being visible there. But anyway, let’s see how it works.” (more…)

Paris – Rineke Dijkstra: “Selected Works” at Marian Goodman Through February 21st, 2015

On view at Marian Goodman’s Paris exhibition space is the third exhibition from Dutch photographer and filmmaker Rineke Dijkstra, composed of of two new videos filmed in Russia.  Dijkstra became internationally known for her beach portraits of teenagers on the beaches of South Carolina, Poland, and Ukraine during the 1990’s, but she has also been producing lesser-known video portraits since 1996. The videos on display here, focusing on young ballerinas, were commissioned by Manifesta (European Biennial of Contemporary Art) for its most recent edition in 2014.

Washington to Host Musical Inspired by Degas Sculpture

Little Dancer, a musical inspired by an Edgar Degas sculpture, will open this fall in Washington, DC.  Written by the Tony-award winning duo of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime), the show will follow a young, impoverished dancer in the Paris Opera Ballet as she struggles to practice her art.  Little Dancer is scheduled to open at the Kennedy Center in October.
