The Guardian takes a tour of Gilbert and George’s East London home and studio, where the pair have lived and worked since 1968, and which they have restored to its original 18th century interior. “It took 300 years to go downhill,” explained George. “We’ve prepared it for the next 300 years, see? We’ve used the same paint as they used originally, the same plaster, everything is as it would’ve been originally.” (more…)

W Magazine takes a look inside the home of Frieze director Victoria Siddall and her partner, gallerist François Chantala this week, just in time for the opening of the organization’s New York edition. “Our work and social lives are totally continuous and intertwined,”Siddall says. “But when we’re in the same city, it means that at least we get to see each other in the evenings. Billionaire Leon Black, the owner of Phaidon Press and the recent buyer of Artspace, has purchased the $50 million former home of the Knoedler Gallery on the Upper East Side, a 17,000-square-foot Italian Renaissance-style home at 19 East 70th Street that was last inhabited by London developer Christian Candy. Damien Hirst has purchased one of London’s most impressive examples of Regency architecture, a five story mansion built in 1811 by John Nash and overlooking Regent’s Park. The home was previously owned by Anne Van Lanschot, a Dutch banking magnate who lived there for over 50 years. The home was put on the market last year for £34 million, but some speculate that the artist paid more. (more…)

Home, a new arts center in Manchester, is due to open in Spring 2015 as part of a movement that looks to establish Northern England as a viable contender in a country that places artistic and cultural emphasis on London. £25 million went towards the creation of the center and its multiple art galleries, performing spaces, and restaurants. The city hopes that Home will continue the success of the biennial Manchester International Festival, which has featured work by artists such as Matthew Barney, Steve McQueen, and Marina Abramović. The Telegraph takes a look inside the former home of late artist Louise Bourgeois, which will be reopened as a research center and exhibition space next year, and which was the site of the artist’s legendary work ethic. “She would stay up for three days in a row, hyper,” says her former assistant Jerry Gorovoy. “We tried different sleeping pills, nothing worked. My days would start at ten, and sometimes she’d been sitting there since six waiting for me. ‘You’re late’ she’d say, in the black skirt and shirt she wore every day.” (more…)

Artist and filmmaker Julian Schnabel has announced the opening of an exhibition space on the ground floor of his West Village home in New York. Titled Casa del Popolo, the space’s first show will feature six new works by British painter Nick Mead. “This is the first installment of a program to show the work of other artists and an opportunity to collaborate with people who present unique perspectives on art that I believe in. I wanted to open part of my house to the public so they could have an art experience ‘far from the maddening crowd’.” Says Schnabel. (more…)

Dealer Matthew Marks is currently selling his West Village apartment, built in 1830 by painter Abraham Rattner. The building boasts impressive renovations, all made since the building was purchased in 1997. “At home, we like to move the furniture around, repaint and change the art frequently, but after 16 years, we’ve tried all the combinations and it’s time to move on.” Marks said.
