Opening of Damien Hirst’s New Art Space in London Delayed Until Next Spring

In May or June of next year London might finally play host to Damien Hirst’s new venture, an exhibition space built to house his considerable collection of contemporary art. In the works since 2012, the South London space plans to feature a restaurant and office space alongside six separate galleries filled with pieces by artists such as Jeff Koons, Francis Bacon, and, of course, Hirst himself. Goldsmith’s Announces Plans for Public Art Gallery

Goldsmith’s London has announced plans to build a public art gallery on the University’s South London campus, repurposing the old water tanks of the Laurie Grove Baths.  To raise funds, the institution is asking many former pupils for donations and works to auction in support of the project, including Sarah Lucas, Damien Hirst and Antony Gormley. Judge Allows Corocran Lawsuit to Move Forward

Judge Robert D. Okun of the District of Columbia Superior Court has allowed the lawsuit filed by a group of students and faculty against the Corcoran Gallery to move forward, a move which may delay the absorption of the institution by George Washington University and the National Gallery of Art.  “Today’s decision is a meaningful step for transparency and inclusiveness ”says lawyer Andrew S. FIAC Announces New Fair for Young Galleries

Dominique Lévy to Open London Space on Old Bond Street in Mayfair

Gallerist Dominique Lévy has announced plans to open a London exhibition space in the Mayfair district, following the opening of her Upper East Side gallery last year.  “We are pleased and proud to announce our new space in London,” says Lévy. “Our gallery’s program and culture represent an ongoing, spirited dialogue between Europe and America. Hauser and Wirth Open Somerset Gallery This Week

Paris’s Yvon Lambert Gallery to Close in December

Dealer Yvon Lambert will close his Paris gallery at the end of the year, the Gallery announced this week in a press release.  The dealer has made the decision to focus on editioned works, bibliophilia and other printed works, and will open a new venue dedicated specifically to these disciplines.   (more…)

“Bloodflames Revisited” Breaks ‘White Cube’ at Paul Kasmin

With Gemini G.E.L.‘s colorful “Art on Color” show that opened last month, Paul Kasmin Gallery‘s “Bloodflames Revisited” brings another exhibition in the Chelsea area that mixes up the traditional white-walled gallery spaceThis show is a “contemporary response” to the show “Bloodflames” that shook up the conventional gallery when it showed in New York’s Hugo Gallery in 1947.  “What interests me is how can we now together as a group of artists in the show trying to attempt to activate the floor, so the floor becomes as active viscerally active, formally acted as the wall, which is through a work of art…” Phong Bui, the show’s curator said. “Bloodflames Revisited” will be on view through August 15th in Paul Kasmin Gallery’s two spaces.
