Currently on view at White Cube Gallery, 25-26 Mason’s Yard, is the exhibition of new works by a renowned German artist Franz Ackermann, titled Wait. It is Ackermann’s third exhibition at the White Cube, this time including not only his signature large-format canvasses on display on the lower level, but also an newer installation occupying the ground floor of the gallery.

The installation, which consists of artwork produced in the variety of media, centers around the painting titled ‘Citizen,” depicting a disproportional goggled face of a military pilot.   Among other components of the installation is a spinning wall-mounted painting, with seven deadly sins written on its frame, a video and chunks of raw wood randomly placed on the floor of the gallery.

The First Annual Art Awards via Guggenheim.org

Last night, October 29, marked the inauguration of a new annual art event: Rob Pruitt presented The First Annual Art Awards at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New Yorkin association with the city’s oldest alternative art space, White Columns.

The awards were conceived by artist, Rob Pruitt, as a performance-based artwork; for the occasion he recruited the characters of Index Magazine’s wry satirical web series, Delusional Downtown Divas. The New York Times have reported that “…the Divas schemed to infiltrate the art establishment by any means possible. In one segment they pitched a tent in the Guggenheim, doing their laundry in the lobby fountain.”

P.F.1 in the P.S.1 courtyard via NYSun

P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, an affiliate of The Museum of Modern Art, has its summer courtyard installation up and running. This year, the ninth annual MoMA/P.S.1 Young Architects Program selected WORK Architecture Company, from New York, to transform the outdoor courtyard into a fully functional urban farm, called Public Farm One, or P.F.1. The farm will stay at P.S.1 through the month of September.

Deitch Studios exterior by assume vivid astro focus via Deitch

Ever the purveyor of fun, Deitch Studios in Long Island City has been completely taken over by the Brazilian art collective Assume Vivid Astro Focus for the summer, resulting a lively installation entitled Absolutely Venomous Accurately Fallacious (Naturally Delicious). Perched right on the East River, the exterior of the Studios has been covered in a mural, and filled with the colorful and explosive sculpture assume vivid astro focus is known for. It has also been transformed into a literal disco, hosting parties and performances through the run of the exhibition, including a PS1 Warm-Up afterparty on July 26 — a great chance to check out the artwork in all its glory.
