Eric Fischl Parts Ways with Mary Boone Gallery After 30 Years

After 30 years working with Mary Boone, Eric Fischl is parting ways with the gallery, the Art Newspaper reports.  “Right now, Eric says he wants to concentrate on his work, not be affiliated with a gallery. We respect that and will continue to have a good relationship with him,” says Ron Warren, director and partner at Mary Boone. “I think he has decided that the art world and the market have changed so much that he wants to concentrate on making his work, and distance himself from being represented by a gallery.” (more…)

Sterling Ruby Leaves Hauser & Wirth

Sterling Ruby will end his representation with Hauser & Wirth this year, the Art Newspaper reports, after three years with the gallery.  Marc Payot, VP of Hauser & Wirth, stated the gallery remains on “very friendly terms” with Ruby. (more…)

Adrian Ghenie Moves to Thaddaeus Ropac

Robert Rauschenberg Foundation No Longer Represented by Gagosian

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation is no longer represented by Gagosian Gallery, Artforum reports, a move which ends a partnership first started in 2008.  The organization will now look to Pace Gallery (which represented Rauschenberg later in his career), Thaddaeus Ropac, and São Paulo’s Luisa Strina for worldwide representation.   (more…)

Anri Sala Named Leading French Artist by Annual Report

The 2015 Artindex France report, annually released by Art Newspaper sister publication Journal des Arts has been released this week, with Berlin-based, French-Albanian artist Anri Sala topping the list, followed by François Morellet and Christian Boltanski, respectively.  The survey bases its findings on the number of solo exhibitions worldwide, compounded by each venue’s level of recognition and prominence. New York – E.V. Day: “Semi-Feral” at Mary Boone Through October 25th, 2014

On view now at Mary Boone’s uptown gallery is the haunting sculpture series Semi-Feral by artist E.V. Day. The show centers around a large, site-specific sculptural piece comprised of multiple casts of saber-tooth tiger skeletons floating above the floor of the gallery space.  Day’s work, often concerning sexuality and femininity, takes its point of departure here from the slang term “cat fight.”  A phrase that typically robs a fight from any viciousness, Day returns the notion to its original, ferociously natural element.

Gagosian Gallery to Represent Estate of Walter de Maria

Gagosian Gallery has announced that it will represent the estate of artist Walter de Maria, continuing a relationship the artist had with the gallery during his life, showing there several times.  The gallery’s first step is assisting in establishing a Foundation to oversee his estate and work.  “Walter so wished to establish his own foundation, but sadly, he did not accomplish this during his lifetime,” says Elizabeth Childress, former director of the artist’s studio. “It is an important step to have as a protection and a promotion of his legacy.” (more…)

Wolfgang Tillmans Reportedly Leaving Andrea Rosen for David Zwirner

German photographer Wolfgang Tillmans is reportedly breaking ties with Andrea Rosen Gallery, confirmed by the gallerist this morning.  “Not only do I respect an artist’s right to make choices, but I also deeply respect Wolfgang’s work,” Rosen wrote in an email. “Wolfgang and I continue to have a meaningful and personal dialogue, and in the spirit of our twenty year relationship, it will continue both professionally and personally.”  Sources indicate that Tillmans will be signing on with David Zwirner.
