Noah Horowitz, who has served as Executive Director of The Armory Show since 2011, has announced that he is accepting a position as Director Americas for Art Basel, placing him in charge of the Miami Beach edition of the fair. “The Americas have been a leading center in the art world for many decades, and the region continues to show distinctive and ongoing growth in many different countries,” Horowitz says. “I look forward to working with collectors and arts institutions throughout the two continents – from Canada to South America, and across the entirety of the United States – in an effort to bring the fair in Miami Beach to ever-greater heights.” (more…)

The New Museum has announced Gary Carrion-Murayari, the Kraus Family Curator at the museum, and Alex Gartenfeld, Deputy Director and Chief Curator at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami, will head up curatorial duties for the institution’s 2018 Triennial. “I cannot think of two curators who are more in tune with emerging art today than Gary Carrion-Murayari and Alex Gartenfeld,” says Massimiliano Gioni. “They are young, but their achievements and careers are impressive. The Whitney has announced new officers for its Board of Trustees, appointing Neil G. Bluhm and Laurie M. Tisch as co-chairs, while Richard M. DeMartini will act as president. “I am grateful for the immense contributions of these devoted individuals and thank them with all my heart for ushering the Whitney into a new era, particularly Bob Hurst who chaired the capital campaign, which made the new building possible,” says President Adam Weinberg. The New Museum has appointed Lauren Cornell, who recently co-curated the 2015 Triennial alongside artist Ryan Trecartin, as Curator and Associate Director, Technology Initiatives. “Through her work at the New Museum and at Rhizome first, Lauren Cornell has been tracking the influence of technology on art and culture at large,” says Massimiliano Gioni, the Museum’s Artistic Director. “In her new position, she will help the Museum take an even more active role in engaging with the present and the future.” (more…)

In the wake of the controversy over its canceled Hermann Nitsch show, Mexico City’s Museo Jumex has appointed Julieta González as chief curator and interim director, replacing the departed Patrick Charpenel. “Although Patrick is now moving on, the bonds between him and Museo Jumex are indissoluble,” said Jumex heir Eugenio López Alonso. “I am certain we will have the opportunity to collaborate with him in the future.” (more…)

Tate Britain director Penelope Curtis will leave her position at the museum after five years at the helm of the museum that have been marked by criticism and occasionally turbulent personnel changes. She will move to be the first international director of the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum in Lisbon. “I want to keep all that is good about the museum, which I admire deeply, while developing ways in which it can make more of its context and position,” she says, “especially in relation to the neighboring Modern Art Centre, and more widely.” (more…)

MoMA PS1 Curator Christopher Lew has been hired on at the Whitney Museum as the institution’s new associate curator. Lew has earned a reputation for groundbreaking shows of young and rising artists, and his group shows at PS1 had earned considerable praise. “The Whitney is enjoying an exciting time of growth and I am thrilled and honored to join the museum as it prepares to return downtown,” he said in a statement. MOCA has named scholar, art writer and curator Helen Molesworth as its new Chief Curator. Molesworth, who will assume the position beginning September 1st, previously worked at ICA/Boston and before that served as the leader of the department of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Harvard Art Museum. “I love the way she talks about art, thinks about art, writes about art,” he said. “She has an incredible connection with artists and audiences and patrons. The co-founder and Chairman of Tom Ford International, former President and CEO of Gucci Group, De Sole turned around Gucci while he was there, taking it from nearly bankrupt to a multi-billion dollar conglomerate. “We’re very excited that Domenico has joined the Board and has also agreed to serve as Lead Independent Director.
