Sketch Restaurant Announces Collaboration with David Shrigley

Mayfair restaurant Sketch has invited artist David Shrigley to redesign its exhibition space and menu, following in the footsteps of Martin Creed, who redesigned the space in 2012.  Working on the aesthetic appearance of the space, Shrigley will also collaborate with the restaurant’s kitchen, creating a series of menu items heavily inspired by his art.  The restaurant will close at the end of the year for the renovations, opening again in February of 2014. Nate Lowman Designs Custom Chuck Taylors for Just One Eye

Fashion site Just One Eye has teamed up with artist Nate Lowman to produce several one-of-a-kind pairs of Converse Chuck Taylors, emphasizing the artist’s ongoing love of the classic sneaker.  21 pairs of shoes will be created, as well as a limited edition run of 500 pairs reproduced from one of the designs.  The collaboration also features several video pieces by director and cinematographer Joe Pytka, inspired by the shoes. Reebok Releases New Line of Shoes with Art by Jean-Michel Basquiat

Part of its ongoing artist collaboration series, sneaker company Reebok has announced a series of shoes featuring the art of painter Jean-Michel Basquiat.  Screenprinted and embroidered across the upper segments of the shoes, the line features a series of pieces by the artist, and is now available. Currently on view at Larry Gagosian’s Paris location is an exhibition focusing on the communications, collaborations, and creative dialogues shared by two of the pioneering minds of art and design: Alexander Calder and Jean Prouvé.  Exploring the pair’s elegant distillation of sculptural and architectural forms, the show catalogues a moment of shared concerns that helped to define the path of mid-20th century modernism.

Ai Weiwei Designs Line of Skateboards for Sk8room

Chinese artist Ai Weiwei has released a series of specially designed skateboard decks for The Sk8room.  Featuring shots of some of the artist’s work (including his iconic sunflower seeds work), overlaid with text from the artist. The set of three decks follows in the wake of other Sk8room Collaborations with Damien Hirst and Banksy.   (more…)

Paul McCarthy Writes Over Kate Moss on New Document Magazine

Jeff Koons Interviewed in New York Times Magazine

Artist Jeff Koons is interviewed in the New York Times Magazine, discussing his recent collaboration with champagne maker Dom Pérignon, his recent work, and his interest in art history.  “If we look at human history, the only narrative of human history that we have is our genes and our DNA. Every other narrative is developed by political motivations. So the true human history is our genes and DNA. There’s an aspect of consciousness — consciousness is making connections. The way art works is connections. The more connections something makes, the more it imitates life itself.”   He says. (more…)

Kenny Scharf Collaborates with Jeremy Scott

Fashion designer Jeremy Scott has unveiled a new series of prints for his Spring and Summer 2014 line, featuring collaborative artworks made with Kenny Scharf.  Featuring Scharf’s signature cartoon imagery, the pieces are part of a series called “Teenagers from Mars.” “Jeremy is the first person that I ever let take my art and do whatever he wants. I wasn’t nervous about it not being the greatest most fun thing and I wasn’t let down for one second.”  Says Scharf. (more…)

Garage Magazine Brings John Baldessari Together with Inez and Vinoodh for Cover Art

The newest issue of Garage Magazine is featuring a diptych cover, created in a collaboration between fashion photographers Inez and Vinoodh, and artist John Baldessari.  Photographing supermodel Adriana Lima, Inez and Vinoodh then turned the image over to Baldessari, who abstracted the image in his signature color overlays.  The issue also features an interview with Baldessari, whose solo show at the Garage Center in Moscow opens this fall. Supreme Releases Fall Lookbook, Featuring Basquiat Collaborations

Urban fashion company Supreme has just unveiled its Fall lookbook, which has partnered with the estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat to include a number of graphics and images from the paintings of late artist.  In one photo, a model sports a red denim jacket, with Basquiat’s famous Cassius Clay figure.  Other pieces feature Basquiat’s signature textual juxtapositions and images.  (more…)

Bernadaud Releases Series of Collector Dinnerware from Koons, Calle, JR and More

French porcelain manufacturer Bernadaud has announced a series of collectible, limited-edition plates, featuring collaborations with a number of contemporary artists, including Jeff Koons, Sophie Calle, Prune Nourry, and JR.  The series of plates, titled L’Art de La Table, are currently available in the company’s Chelsea boutique. Preparing for the release of her anticipated album ARTPOP, pop star Lady Gaga has announced a series of collaborations with contemporary artists, including Jeff Koons, Marina Abramovic, Inez & Vinoodh and Robert Wilson.  Gaga has stated that her new project will “bring the music industry into a new age; an age where art drives pop, and the artist once again is in control of the ‘icon.'” (more…)

Jeff Koons Designs Champagne Bottle for Dom Perignon

Jeff Koons has partnered with Champagne makers Dom Pérignon to release an extremely limited edition packaging design or the company’s 2003 Rosé.  Made in stainless steel, the design is a miniature of Koons’ Balloon Venus, and is available for the price of $20,000 a bottle.  “I’m very proud of the ‘Balloon Venus,’” says Koons. “It’s a work that I enjoy and I think really represents my oeuvre of work. ‘Balloon Venus’ represents the continuation of life’s energy. A great vintage also represents the vintages that will come, and so it’s about the continuation of something. It’s a continued creative process.” (more…)

Whitney Museum Uncovers the Challenges of Digital Restoration

When the Whitney Museum set out to restore artist Douglas Davis’s early collaborative, online art piece the World’s First Collaborative Sentence, few could foresee the challenges that digital and internet-based art posed for repair and maintenance.  Based on constantly shifting programming languages and operating systems, digital art often offers complex restoration problems, forcing curators and experts to evaluate the degradation of web sites, coding and software updates against the original authenticity of the piece to properly exhibit it.  “We’re working on constantly shifting grounds,” said Rudolf Frieling, of the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. “Whatever hardware, platform or device we’re using is not going to be there tomorrow.” (more…)

As part of a global tour featuring Chuck Close’s graphic works, curated by the Parrish Art Museum, USA, are currently on view at the White Cube Bermondsey South Galleries in London. Featuring a particular focus on Close’s prints, the exhibition brings a series of meticulously time-consuming works by the artist to light that stand strongly alongside his better-known, large-scale paintings.

David Bowie Releases New Video With Tony Oursler
