December 3rd, 2012

Despite the large number of exhibitors from New York who are in recovery from Hurricane Sandy, almost  every Chelsea gallery scheduled to exhibit will be at this year’s 11th edition of Art Basel Miami Beach week. Events begin as early as today, Monday, December 3rd and run through Sunday, December 9th. Exhibitors and artists are preparing for a flurry of activity, with a multitude of fairs, some old, some new; public installations, exhibitions, collaborations and of course, parties centering around the Delano, The W, Soho Beach House, The Deauville, The Raleigh, The Standard and others. Check out the detailed schedule of events below.

More than 260 leading galleries from North America, Europe, Latin America, Asia and Africa will take part in The Art Basel Fair, showcasing works by more than 2,000 artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. Special exhibition sections feature young galleries, performance art, public art projects and video art. Top-quality exhibitions in the museums of South Florida and special programs for art collectors and curators also help make the event a special time for encountering art. And every year, a greater number of art collectors, artists, dealers, curators, critics and art enthusiasts from around the world participate in Art Basel and the satellite fairs.

The New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA), a not-for-profit collective of professionals working with contemporary art, will host the NADA Art Fair. Held in parallel with Art Basel Miami Beach, the Fair features 88 emerging art galleries from 19 countries, as well as performances, lectures and events. The work of emerging contemporary artists is presented in an intimate setting with an entire section of the venue set aside for solo presentations.

And this is the inaugural year for the  UNTITLED Fair, a curated fair in a tent on the beach designed by Terry Riley and curated by Cuban-born and Miami-raised Omar Lopez-Chahoud. UNTITLED will feature approximately 50 international galleries.
